Peak Performance opens new concept store in Canada

Peak Performance has opened its new global concept store in CF Carrefour Laval. The Carrefour store, on the North Shore of Montreal, is about 1,500 square feet of selling space. The new concept store has a new layout, new fixtures, and different branding with a premium Scandinavian design, similar to the Peak Performance concept store that prior opened in Oslo.

Christopher Clementoni, Country Manager for Peak Performance Canada, said the retailer’s mission is “to be a leading sports fashion brand for the active lifestyle consumer”.

Currently, the company also has stores in Whistler, B.C. and in Brossard, Quebec, just outside of Montreal.

“We are looking to expand our retail footprint in Canada. We will be looking at major epicentres such as Toronto and Vancouver. Right now in Eastern Canada, in Quebec specifically, our business is very, very healthy as we have our headquarters here and we’ve been very focused on this kind of ski, Euro fashion market. We have expanded quite a bit nationally in the last 18 months working with new partners on the West Coast and Sporting Life which has helped us create a national expansion. Now we’re looking to open branded stores in epicentres like Toronto and Vancouver to really essentially create that Peak Performance environment for the consumer in those territories.”

The partnership with Sporting Life, which began a year ago in October, has allowed the retailer to position itself amongst other similar highly technical outdoor brands.

Peak Performance products are also distributed through the Sportium stores and Sports Experts stores in Quebec.

“As you move across the country to the West Coast, we don’t have a key partner now on the West Coast but that’s essentially part of the expansion,” said Clementoni.

In 2018, Peak Performance was purchased by Amers Sports which also owns the brands Arc’teryx, Armada, Atomic, DeMarini, Enve, Louisville Slugger, Salomon, Suunto, Precor, and Wilson.

The ski brand Peak Performance was founded in 1986 in Åre, a mountain village in the Swedish province of Jämtland, by three founders, hanging out in a chalet talking about making better quality ski wear and creating a line that could transfer seamlessly to their traditional après–ski activities.

Meet Martin Richard, Owner Peak Performance Laval

Martin brings an extensive network and broad range of experience as the new Peak Performance Carrefour Laval Franchisee.  His 20-year leadership background in law, financial services, human resources and communications/marketing provides Martin with the strategic and tactical insights to truly succeed as a Peak Performance Partner.

This partnership with Peak Performance comes as no surprise as Martin’s first job was in sports retail selling ski gear and clothing. Introduced to the world of skiing at the age of 5 meant that by working in such an environment, he was combining his passion for the sport with his natural abilities to connect with people. This was a win-win on every level. Martin continued working in sports retail and high-end fashion for the most part of his twenties holding various sales and management roles up until he completed his degree and started his career as a corporate lawyer.

Martin has many passions such as design, architecture, fashion, photography and sports, more specifically backcountry skiing, golfing and biking, Martin connected with the Peak Performance brand over 15-years ago.  Its no surprise that finding himself part of the Peak Performance family today, Martin is combining his passions with his entrepreneurial desire to own and operate his own business one day. This dream has finally come true and Martin is super excited to part of the Peak Performance Team and looking very much forward to meeting you all in person very soon. Martin is also the proud father of the 5-month old daughter named Stella.
