To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope, adidas unveils a commemorative collection with all net proceeds going to The Terry Fox Foundation to support cancer research.
With a goal of raising $1 million through a series of drops over the next six months, each piece will pay homage to the legendary Canadian. The first drop on May 20th, which is now sold out, featured a Terry Fox t-shirt and the re-release of the adidas Orion shoe that Terry wore during his run in 1980. Before his iconic run 40 years ago, Terry wrote a letter to adidas requesting footwear sponsorship for his cross-country journey to raise cancer awareness. In support of his mission, adidas sent him 26 pairs of the Orion shoe.
The refreshed Orions part of this commemorative collection features ‘Terry Fox’ on the side, a 40th anniversary sock liner, special commemorative shoelaces, and tissue paper printed with a copy of Terry’s original letter to adidas. For those who were unable to purchase a product from the sold out first drop on May 20th, stay tuned as adidas will be releasing additional products over the next few months, including a re-stock of the Orion shoe, new Terry Fox t-shirts, and a special-edition Ultraboost DNA, that will drop later in the year, which reimagines a version that Terry Fox would wear today.
In addition to the collection, adidas is encouraging Canadians to join icons like Darryl Sittler, Tessa Virtue, Connor McDavid, Ron MacLean, Ashley Lawrence, and P.K. Subban in sharing what Terry Fox means to them by using #ThanksTerry on social media.
“We’re very proud of our support of Terry in 1980, and our continued connection with both the Fox Family and the Foundation,” said Michael Rossi, President of adidas Canada. “This year we continue our long-standing commitment and contributions to The Terry Fox Foundation with dedicated products and a call for Canadians to celebrate Terry’s legacy.”
The collection is available exclusively in Canada through adidas.ca/TerryFox. 100% of the net proceeds will be donated to The Terry Fox Foundation as part of adidas’ ongoing support of the organization.
