Sporting Goods Market Overview Report

This report has become the definitive status report on the Canadian retail sporting goods industry. A sample can be viewed here.

This report provides a comprehensive overview of the total Canadian sporting goods market. The report, based on interviews with a nationally representative sample of 7,000 Canadian households, examines the status of the sporting goods market over the previous year. The report overviews retail trends. Retail channel and individual retailer market share figures detailed by age and gender segments, provinces and by major metro markets. Overviews of the sporting goods equipment, apparel, and footwear segments. Includes  details on the size of the market, channels of distribution along with individual major retailer and brand market shares. The report also profiles twenty different sporting goods merchandise categories. For each category the size of the market, channels of distribution and largest ten retailers are detailed.


Sports Participation Report

This report provides an annual update on the sports participation activities for Canadian’s. Information is based on interviews with 6,000 households. The report covers twenty-eight different sports participation rates for the period January – June and July –December over the past four years. Participation rates are detailed by sex, age segments, provinces and major metropolitan areas. The report identifies sports having the highest and lowest participation rates. This report is a must for Canadian suppliers/manufacturers and retailers who are focused on a single sport category.


Sport Category Specific Reports

The category reports include 20 individual sport categories and are produced annually.  Each of these Sports Vision reports (e.g. hockey equipment) separately profile all of the individual end uses (e.g. hockey sticks, hockey gloves etc.) making up a category.  For each product making up a category the following information is detailed:

  • Estimated retail sales
  • Channels of distribution share
  • Retailer shares
  • Brand shares
  • Price point distribution
  • Average price by retailer
  • Demographic profile of the age of user
